What Is Agoraphobia?

A type of anxiety disorder characterized by a fear of situations where escape might be difficult or embarrassing.

Symptoms of Agoraphobia?

Gradual exposure to feared situations, relaxation and stress-reduction techniques, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) to challenge negative thoughts, and medication if necessary.

Fear or anxiety about leaving the house, or being in places where escape might be difficult or embarrassing, such as crowds, public transportation, or open spaces.

Sudden and intense feelings of fear or panic that may be triggered by a specific situation or arise unexpectedly.

Avoiding situations or places that trigger anxiety, or requiring a companion to go out in public.

Fear of losing control of oneself or of experiencing a panic attack in a public place.

Physical symptoms of anxiety, such as sweating, trembling, rapid heartbeat, or shortness of breath.

Feelings of sadness, hopelessness, or worthlessness, which may occur as a result of social isolation or difficulty participating in everyday activities.
